“I want to get chocolate wasted,” says little Becky Feder in the movie Grown Ups.

Reid Hall staff introduced Chocolate Wasted to campus several years ago as a way to educate students about alcohol usage.

The event went campus-wide Wednesday night as  Chocolate Wasted ushered in the first @Home program. These 14 programs are part of University Housing’s signature series meant to support student success.

“I thought it was really cool how they took such a serious topic like alcohol education and turned it into such a fun night and still kept it educational and helpful,” said Ansley Fox, a student who attended the program.

About 300 students attended the event.

The chocolate part of Chocolate Wasted comes in with the food. There was every kind of chocolate food there that you could imagine.

On the tables with the food were facts about alcohol usage for students to read. All of these stations had something to do with learning about what can happen when you are drinking alcohol.

University Police officers were there to discuss the effects of drinking and show exactly how much alcohol was really in a shot, beer, wine glass, etc).

Other stations or areas included “Drunk Jenga.” Students could play giant Jenga while wearing drunk goggles, Flip Cup, “beer” pong, or drink mocktails.

There was also a dance party, a screening of The Hangover and board games.

Some students secretly dropped "ruffies" ( actually just M&Ms) in the drinks of attendees to show the importance of watching your drink.

Some students secretly dropped “ruffies” ( actually just M&Ms) in the drinks of attendees to show the importance of watching your drink.

One of the big learning points was having those working the program secretly slip an M&M into an unattended drink.

The program was paused at one point during the night. Students were told to look into their drinks for the M&Ms. Many students found them without even realizing that they had been “drugged.”

This showed just how easy it was to have your drink drugged at a real party if you were not careful.

Other @Home events are planned for October. These events include:

  • Study Like a Hog Resource Fair
  • Finance Symposium
  • Life Raft Debate

More information on those events coming soon.
