The National Residence Hall Honorary, or NRHH, is an honorary society made up of the top 1 percent of on-campus student leaders.
One of our symbols is the diamond. Arkansas is the only state in the Union to have an active diamond mine, the strongest and most precious mineral. It seems fitting that some of the strongest and most unique leaders thrive at the University of Arkansas.
The Tau Alpha Epsilon Chapter at the University of Arkansas is looking for new members to add to our organization. Who knows? You might be a perfect fit.
1. Room to Grow
NRHH does a great many things for our campus, including RA Appreciation Week and Campus Cigarette Butt Cleanups. But one of the greatest opportunities that NRHH offers is the opportunity for growth. We always need passionate servant leaders to shape our organization.
Member’s voices as officers and committee members are invaluable.
Additionally, there are opportunities to represent the University of Arkansas on the regional and NACURH levels, without even leaving your room.
Regional and NACURH officers are always looking for members to serve on committees that shape our organization and plan programs and initiatives that carry out of values statement.
2. Service is my Middle Name
Service is one of our two core values.
If you’re a service-minded individual, we want you to help plan and execute service projects for our community. Annually, we hold cigarette butt cleanups and currently, we’re looking at adopting a trail we will clean twice a semester.
Additionally, we’re supporting Hogs for Hope by forming a team for the Dance Marathon benefitting the Arkansas Children’s Hospital on March 12th.
3. NRHH Goes to Delaware and Beyond
NRHH has some great opportunities for you.
Every year we participate in three conferences: SWACURH, No Frills and NACURH. Our organization fundraises all year so members can attend these conferences for free.
At conferences, you can attend sessions about everything from team-building to sustainability. The knowledge you gain there helps you serve your campus and your communities when you bring it back and share it. Conferences also hold lots of time for meeting new people from other schools, dances, banquets and spirit competitions.
This summer, we’re going to NACURH in Delaware. You’re invited!
4. Great Minds Think Alike
Being involved in residential life is a unique experience. The farther you delve into it, the harder it is for other to understand what you do and why you do it. NRHH members love their housing experience and want to help others love it too.
By joining our organization, you’ll be gaining a group of peers that understand you and will occasionally geek out about programming ideas with you.
5. Boardroom, not the Bored-Room
“Boardroom” is another great opportunity to get involved. Our chapter sends our president and an “IT” (in training) to what’s called Boardroom. These individuals get to vote and discuss on behalf of our institution in all matters NRHH. They also get to vote on bids for awards at the regional level.
6. You ‘Bid-da’ Recognize
Bids are voted on and awarded at our Regional Conferences and also the NACURH conference, our international conference.
In October, we nominated Madeleine Chaisson, a senior in Pomfret hall for Volunteer of the Year and she won.
Additionally, later this month, we’re nominating Stacia Smith for Advisor of the Year and the University of Arkansas for Commitment to Sustainability. If you have strengths in Graphic Design or writing and love recognizing others, we’d love to add you to our bid team.
7. RA Stands for ‘Really Awesome’
If you’re interested in being a resident assistant, NRHH could be a great asset to learning more about University Housing and our on-campus communities.
A large portion of our membership is made up of RAs from all over campus. Several members who have joined who aren’t RAs got hired later on in their membership.
Remember that RAs receive free student housing while working for University Housing.
8. Small But Mighty
The National Residence Hall Honorary has a membership cap of 1 percent of each institution’s on-campus student population. For the University of Arkansas, this puts us at approximately 52 members.
The perks of being in a small organization are that everyone knows your name, your voice is never lost and the organization thrives on your involvement and participation.
Currently, our roster isn’t filled all the way. We’re trying to fill it with great on-campus leaders like you.
Historically, we’ve never fully filled our membership quota. This year, we’d like to end the year by inducting 20 new members.
