University Housing showed their appreciation for faculty this week by hosting several events across campus. These events included a lunch for faculty who work closely with housing, a cookout and a ice cream social.
Faculty Appreciation Week, April 4-8, is a campus-wide event that allows students and staff to showcase the crucial role of faculty.
Stephanie G. Adams, Ed.D, is Housing’s associate director for academic engagement. She coordinated Housing’s efforts to thank faculty during the week.
“Faculty Appreciation Week is an opportunity to acknowledge our faculty partners who go above and beyond to engage, encourage, and mentor students who live with us. We want to say ‘thank you’ for your time, effort and support of students,” Adams said.
Academic Engagement
Academic engagement is a major component of Housing’s mission.
We have 33 active Adopt a Profs this year. The Adopt a Prof Program gives our faculty partners the opportunity to engage with students where they live.
As resident assistants plan and implement programs in their residence hall, the Adopt-A-Profs are invited to attend and interact with the residents. Faculty choose which programs they attend based on their availability.
Some residential students participate in Living Learning Communities (LLC). Housing offers 9 LLCs this fall. These communities are created around specific programmatic or major topics such as, business, music, or diversity scholars.
Housing also works with the Fulbright Advising Center to offer advising in our residence halls. The Maple Hill Advising Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday. They have two full-time advisers that meet students by appointment or walk-in.
