Global Series Kicks off with USA Day at Holcombe Hall!

Something rather unique about the Holcombe Hall Community is the many international students, as well as the International Students Office, that call our building home! Holcombe Hall also hosts the Global Series Program, which allows students from all around the world to present and share important aspects of their culture and prepare a traditional snack from their country for everyone at the event to taste!

This past week was this year’s first Global Series, and to kick it off we celebrated USA Day, a way for our students coming from different states and even countries to learn about what makes each of the states unique! We had representatives from California all the way to Florida, and it was amazing to be able to learn about traditions, iconic foods, and different landmarks of different states. Our presenters shared what was notable about their home state, as well as what it’s like to live there! After students were able to visit the many different state booths, we cleared the floor for some dancing! We were also able to showcase some of our well-known dances and had a blast!

This semester, Global Series is showcasing African Culture to the U of A! Our next Global Series event is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27  in the Holcombe Hall Living Room and is the Battle of the Jollof Rice! We will have presenters from Nigeria and Ghana sharing about their cultures and traditions, and then a taste test between the two Jollofs! We hope to see you there!

Two of our residents went and learned all about Pennsylvania, and the state’s tradition of a  wedding cookie bar
