As the sky darkened and the spirit of autumn arose, the quiet hall of Reid transformed into an eerie, bone-chilling, haunted spectacular. Screams and frightful shrieks overtook the hall. A place where resident assistants (RAs) forgot their typical roles and swarmed the entire first floor of what was once a familiar hall to a now unrecognizable, frightening Hell on the Hill.
Reid Hall hosted its annual Hell on the Hill event on Oct. 23, a Halloween bash in which the entire first floor of the building is reimagined as a haunted maze, with RAs taking on the role of scare actors inside each room. Reid Hall director Tabitha Bondurant touched on her hopes for the event.
“The goal is pretty much to involve students so they get a chance to see their RAs across campus act. It’s a cool experience for them to see those familiar faces,” Bondurant said.
The haunted bash took place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a line of students wrapping around the outside of the building. Julia DiGrazia, a first-year student who lives in Adohi Hall, attended the event for the first time last night.
“Hell on the Hill was very scary. I really thought it was terrifying and even screamed out loud. The sound effects were very realistic,” DiGrazia said.
RAs encouraged students to wear their best costumes and took them through the haunted house in groups of five to seven at a time. The event took weeks to plan and the rooms had to be closed in preparation.
First-timer Joa Morelli showed her gratitude for the event and the planning that went into it.
“My first ever Hell on the Hill was one for the books. It was so amazing to see the incredible turnout of students and support fun activities on our campus,” she said.
