He played David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” by David Bowie. Bowie died Jan. 10.

McMahon also performed an original song that he wrote called “Untitled.”

“It’s always fun, I always enjoy getting up there and practicing stuff that I have been working on,” McMahon said. “It’s a good opportunity for getting reactions for third party material.”

McMahon has been playing guitar for three years. This was his second time to perform at Futrall Coffee House.

‘Brings A Lot of People Together’

Tristen Watson, a poultry science major at the U of A, talked about what the experience meant to him as a member of the audience.

“It brings a lot of people together. It allows people to show off their talents and what they have a passion for. It shows diversity, and it really is an awesome experience,” he said.

Chris Oldfield was the next to perform, playing well-known songs by the Beatles and other bands. He has been playing for 12 years. He explained that while performing was tough, he played at Futrall Coffee House last year. This helped him get over stage fright.

Geoff Logan and Pietro Malky finished off the night covering songs from well-known artists including Justin Bieber and Adele. At the end of the night, the audience voted on the best performance and Logan and Malky’s performance came in first place.

Other notable pieces included Kenneth Hamilton reciting a poem that he wrote called “Skin,” as well as a song performed by Kinan Alhallak and Pietro Malky called “5-Hour Energy Shot.”

A raffle was drawn throughout the night, prizes included a Fitbit, a surround sound system, and an Apple TV.
