In less than a week, students will arrive from across the states to share their common love for the new home, the University of Arkansas.

Move-in is a great time to pack your stuff and consider what you want to bring to the university.

That also makes it a great time to consider taking some small steps toward sustainability while moving.

Put your recyclable materials in the right place. Inside of every residence hall, there are recycling bins where you can dispose of things properly

Bring your own water bottle. You’ll find bottle refilling stations all over in campus buildings. Don’t buy bottled water. Bring your own and refill anytime you need a cool drink.

Use paper decorations for your room. That way you can recycle them at the end of the spring semester. You don’t need a printer because you can go to the Arkansas Union or other places on campus to print.

Check out Turning Green for more ideas on how to make your move-in experience as sustainable for the planet as possible. Their #GreenThursday initiative encourages you to use less and choose products that create less impact on our environment.

Look for labels like USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Verified, BPA Free, Fair Trade, and 100% post-consumer recycled on your products.

Check out the checklist.
